Injury-Hit Tomlinson Is Hoping for One Final Giant Leap

CHRIS Tomlinson is nursing himself through another major championship held together with sticky tape and hoping beyond hope for one last big jump.

This is Tomlinson's fourth appearance at the Commonwealth Games and he just a few weeks ago was hopeful of erasing the memories of four years ago in Delhi, when he injured himself in the final.

But the former British long jump record holder and two-time Olympic finalist from Middlesbrough admitted he was in far from peak shape after qualifying for the final with his only qualifying effort, a 7.89m leap that was well off his best.

"It was easy enough, but I'm carrying quite a bad leg injury so I couldn't really jump as I wanted," he said.

"I did what I had to do in terms of qualifying, so that was all right.

"I don't know whether it'll affect me or not - we'll have to wait and see. 'll have to try and nurse it through, and we'll have to see it responds. It's the quad again.

"It was 100% a week or so ago, but now it's started to rear its ugly head again. …
