Cowardly Kick Earns Jail Time

AT JUST 23, Jedd Louis Morrison has been convicted and jailed on his fourth serious assault offence.

In what District Court Judge David Reid described as cowardly, unprovoked and incomprehensible, Morrison had kicked a man in the face as the man sat passively looking at his mobile phone.

Morrison was just 21 at the time of the incident at Dalby's Windsor Hotel on the night of November 5, 2012.

CCTV footage of the incident played to Toowoomba District Court showed Morrison being spoken to by hotel management after an earlier altercation.

He returned to his seat, a couple of metres from the complainant who was seemingly ignoring him.

Morrison then sprang out of his seat, took a step and kicked the complainant with his right foot, leaving him with fractures around his eye, swelling and a bleeding mouth.

Crown prosecutor Kathleen Millican told the court the defendant's previous criminal history included an assault occasioning bodily harm in company in August 2011 when he and two others had bashed a 17-year-old man who was punched, head-butted, eye gouged and kneed in the head. …
