UN Spokesman Sobs on TV at Gaza Horror; Official Breaks Down as He Hits out at Israeli Bombardment

A SENIOR United Nations spokesman today broke down on live TV describing the horror of the Gaza conflict.

Chris Gunness was speaking from the territory having previously condemned Israel over an attack on a UN school which killed 15 people.

Footage shows him trying to catch his breath, before lowering his head to his hands and breaking down. It came as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country's forces were determined to destroy Hamas's tunnels "with or without a ceasefire". The organisation has used the underground network to launch deadly raids on Israel. Mr Netanyahu signalled an expansion of the campaign which has left 1,370 Palestinians and more than 50 Israelis dead by calling up another 16,000 reservists. It brings the total number of reserves involved to 86,000. Mr Gunness is the spokesman for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency which has provided refuge for displaced Palestinians. …
