Rockets Rule out Cruising

CO-CAPTAIN Mitch Philp has brushed aside any notion of cruising into the 2014 QBL men's series even though the Rockets cannot be unseated from the top of the ladder.

Reigning QBL men's champions, the McDonald's Rockhampton Rockets, face fourth-placed South West Metro Pirates at Hegvold Stadium tonight.

A win tonight would see the club rack up their 10th consecutive win to finish the regular season and would lay the platform for the Rockets' finals foray.

The reigning QBL men's champions are determined to win back-to-back titles for the first time in the club's history and have already secured an August 23 home semi-final.

Led by co-captains Mitch Philp and Brad Williamson, the Rockets have won all but two matches in 2014 with consecutive losses to Cairns and Brisbane on the road in Round 4 the only blight on the team's record.

While tonight's match would enable the club to rest their stars to ensure they are fresh for the semi-final in a fortnight, Philp said the side had no plans of coasting into this year's finals. …
