Retro-Style Salon Makeover Is a Hit; KATE DODD Talks to a Mum Who Refashions Old Pieces of Furniture into Funky and Special Pieces

WHEN hairdresser Jackie Williams decided she wanted to give her salon a makeover, she only knew one thing.

"I wanted it to feel like when you visit your grandma," she said.

Mrs Williams has owned Hair We R on Greenwattle St for about four years and decided now was the time to breathe some new life into the place.

When she found Jess Gibbs' refashioning and repurposing furniture business Jessie Jean on Facebook three months ago, she knew she'd hit the jackpot.

"I loved everything she did so I gave her free rein on the shop," she said.

Mrs Williams said the only item she wanted Mrs Gibbs to incorporate in the new design of the salon was a vintage picture of her mother, a model in a hair competition from the 1960s.

She had the picture in a frame so it was now mounted with various vintage hair products and brushes.

The salon now includes bright pieces of furniture, a cute waiting area, a curtain down the back of the salon to take before and after hair shots for customers and a cute table, chairs and coffee station. …
