Pacers Gear Up for Races on Turf at Allman Park

HARNESS racing returns to Warwick for the first time in almost 50 years next month.

The Darling Downs Harness Racing Club will revive trot racing in the city on Sunday, September 7 with an inaugural grass-track meeting at Allman Park.

The five-race program has been organised with the approval of Racing Queensland and the host Warwick Turf Club.

Downs club president Anthony Collins said strong horse entry numbers were expected for the day.

The meeting is a continuation of the Grass Track Trotting series which have been successful at Beaudesert, Kilcoy and Deagon.

"We had a grass-track meeting at Clifford Park late last year," Collins said.

"And when the opportunity arose to expand a bit more across the Downs we were keen to bring harness racing back to Warwick for the first time since 1967 when they raced at the showgrounds.

"With the co-operation of Warwick Turf Club and Racing Queensland we've been able to arrange this meeting at an ideal facility. …
