A NORTHUMBERLAND woman is to take part in a fund-raising trek across Iceland in memory of her mother.

Vicky Pringle, 29, from Amble, lost her mum Nicola to cancer at the age of 48 in October 2011.

Nicola benefited from care St Oswald's Hospice's in-patient unit in Gosforth, Newcastle, and died there.

Vicky is now taking part in the Icelandic Trek in October to raise money for the hospice.

She said: "I couldn't believe what an amazing place St Oswald's is. All the staff were so lovely and caring. Mam was only there for 10 days, but the care she was given was wonderful.

"I started fundraising so that I could give something back for their kindness and the amazing care my mam received when she was with them.

"So far, I've done the St Oswald's Way Walk, a skydive, I hosted a coffee morning last year, and have been baking and selling cakes to family and friends!

"I am taking part in St Oswald's Icelandic Trek in October and I have already exceeded my fund-raising target of PS3,000, so anything extra I raise for the hospice now is a bonus! …
