Gersekowski Makes Gain on Rival Hodge

TOOWOOMBA'S Ben Gersekowski remains in strong contention for this year's Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship after gaining ground on front-runner Simon Hodge at Queensland Raceway last weekend.

Second-placed Gersekowski closed to within 13 points of the championship lead with three rounds remaining, following two race wins and a second placing in his McDonald's Gilmour Racing car.

The 21-year-old won both sprint races before Hodge took the weekend's feature race victory after a lightning start to win the race to turn one.

The eight-round series moves to Phillip Island on September 19-21 before the Sydney Motorsport Park round.

The year finishes when Formula 3 cars make their debut on the Homebush street circuit as part of the V8 Supercar Sydney 500 weekend on December 5-7.

Little separates Gersekowski and Hodge on racetrack times, and Gersekowski remains confident of being able to reel in his Team BRM Mygale rival for a series win. …
