Fun and Literature Collide in Book Week

TOOWOOMBA Regional Council is encouraging children all around the region, and their families, to enjoy a range of activities around the region's libraries for this year's Book Week.

Book Week is a very exciting time for Toowoomba Regional Libraries as they hold a range of activities, from book displays to storytelling sessions, with pre-schools and other school-aged groups.

It is a chance for Toowoomba Regional Libraries to share their love of books and showcase some of the extraordinary talent we have in Australian authors and illustrators.

Every session on offer is designed to help children develop vital literacy and numeracy skills in a fun and social atmosphere.

This aim for enjoyable and educational activities links in closely with the 2014 Book Week theme, "Connect to reading -- Reading to connect."

The Children's Book Council of Australia celebrates Book Week every year during the third week of August as a culmination of the year's activities in children's literature.

One of the main aims of the CBCA is to bring quality literature to children across Australia and one of the many ways the volunteer organisation achieves this is through their annual children's literary awards, the Book of the Year Awards. …
