QUEEN track, Don't Stop Me Now is the top song to run the Great North Run to.

In just over two weeks, the North East half marathon will be come the rst mass participation running event to see one million people cross its nish line.

But before they get there organisers Nova International have asked racers what motivational music they want to help them on their way.

Top of the pops picked by runners in an online poll were Queen's ever popular Don't Stop Me Now and Rocky III theme Eye Of [euro]e Tiger, with French DJ David Guetta's 2011 hit Titanium in third.

[euro]e Killers Mr Brightside came fourth, with ELO's Mr Blue Sky in fth, and AC/DC's Highway To Hell, Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now by Starship, I Got A Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas, Dog Days Are Over by Florence and the Machine and Stronger by Kelly Clarkson rounding out the top 10.

Other tracks to make the top 20 included recent megahit Happy by Pharrell Williams, Mark Knoper's Local Hero, I'm Still Standing by Elton John and Footloose by Kenny Loggins.

"Local Hero is certainly the song most associated with the event," said Nova's David Hart, "and Run for Home by Lindisfarne, which I'm quite surprised didn't gure, but then again I am getting on a bit!

"[euro]e oPSce consensus is that [euro]e Edge Of Glory by Lady Gaga was an unexpected miss from the top 20.

"And personally I am a not-so secret fan of Showaddywaddy, so would have liked to see 'Under [euro]e Moon Of Love' on there, or, wait for it, a variation on '[euro]ree Steps To Heaven' - [euro]ree Steps To Hebburn!" All 20 tracks will be added to the playlist and be played at some point around the 13.1 mile Newcastle to South Shields course.

But before any of the runners even reach the start line there will be much music to enjoy as part of the Great North Run Million Opening Ceremony on September 4. …
