Swerve Locked in Battle for Second Place with Nomads; TABLE TENNIS

WITH a 6-4 victory over Beaumont Accountancy Services Nomads A, Swerve A have improved their chances of honours in the Division 1 of the Cleveland & District Summer Table Tennis League.

With all the first half fixtures completed, this result gives Ormesby A a clear seven-point lead with Nomads A and Swerve A locked in second place with 78 points from their 10 fixtures.

In this match Alec Ward was the star player, scoring a hat-trick for Swerve which included a win against Anthony Phoenix at 20-18 in the fifth.

Phoenix, Cooper and Mark Walpole all defeated Karen Shepherd while Swerve completed their victory in the doubles which was won at 12-10 in the decider.

Nomads also lost ground when they entertained Northfield A, playing a 5-5 draw, with two wins each from Walpole and Shannon Walker plus the doubles.

Norwine Mukhtar was the star of the match, scoring a hat-trick for North-field, while Joe Clark and Malcolm Corking won one set each. …
