CAT shot twice in the head with an air rifle ended up having a dangerous operation - 14 months after the incident. Now it's hoped black and white cat Sam's life can return to normal after she successfully endured the op to remove one of the airgun pellets at White Cross Vets in Coulby Newham. Sam's owner, Jennifer Trethowan, first became concerned about seven-year-old Sam 14 months ago when noticing her bloodshot eye. Jennifer said: "I took Sam into White Cross Vets at the Parkway Centre, who revealed she had been shot twice in the temple by an air gun. "A pellet was lodged behind Sam's retina, so they were concerned about her eyesight.

"We were referred to an optometrist, who concluded that it would be much more risky to remove the pellet and our best option would be to leave the wound to heal, so that is what we decided to do." Jennifer, who lived in the Nether- fields area of Middlesbrough at the time but moved house after the incident, was confident Sam had fully recovered - until her beloved pet recently began sneezing a lot and having discharge from her nose. …
