Roll Up to Enjoy All the Fun of a Rural Fair

ONE of the North East's biggest events returns this weekend for the 122nd time.

The annual Glendale Show at Wooler in Northumberland takes place on bank holiday Monday, offering its usual showcase of rural life. The horticultural, industrial and livestock sections have attracted thousands of entries, with the latter at a record high.

The main ring programme includes, for the first time, an air display from a high-performance stunt plane, show jumping, acrobatics on motorbikes from the Kangaroo Kid, parades, fancy dress and fox hounds.

Elsewhere there will be "shear" fun and racing from the woolly wonders of the sheep show, as well as other animal favourites like donkeys, shire horses, alpacas, goats and falcons.

There is also the companion dog show, the annual Cheviot Fell Race, more than 200 trade stands and stalls, a fairground, live music and refreshments.

The gates open at 9am and entry is PS12 per person, PS8 for seniors and free for children under 15. …
