ATLANTIC BEACH RECYCLING UPGRADE

The city of Atlantic Beach is upgrading to 65-gallon carts for residents to use for recycling. Residents will receive the carts beginning Monday. For more (904) 247-5834.

'EMPTY THE SHELTER' ANIMAL ADOPTION EVENT

All adoption fees will be waived during the "Empty the Shelter" adoption event for animals at the Clay County Animal Care and Control Center, 3984 Florida 16 W., Green Cove Springs and its Fleming Island adoption center, 1809-4 Town Center Blvd., Fleming Island. The event is 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the main shelter, and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday through Sunday on Fleming Island. For more, (904) 269-6342.

'SEA YOUR HISTORY'

The St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum's Sea Your History Weekend highlights Spanish and Minorcan heritage Saturday and Sunday. Festivities begin at 3 p.m. Saturday at 81 Lighthouse Ave. Sunday will feature traditional wooden boat building 9-11 a.m., then members of the Minorcan and Los Floridanos societies will share their history and heritage in period attire 1-4 p.m. Tickets are $9.95. PAINTING WITH ACRYLICS FOR BEGINNERS: SEASCAPES

Adults who have never held a paintbrush, mixed colors or created a personal masterpiece will have the opportunity to do so, free, at 1 p.m. Friday at the Main Library, 1960 N. Ponce De Leon Blvd. The workshop is sponsored by the St. Johns Cultural Council, the State of the Arts License Plate Program and the Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine.
