DETROIT | Add NFL Network analysts Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks to those who have been impressed by the progress of Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles.

During a Jaguars-theme segment Thursday, Jeremiah said he and Brooks had Bortles as their third-rated quarterback entering the draft. Bortles was the first passer off the board (No. 3 to the Jaguars).

"I've been completely surprised by how well he's performed, how quickly he has taken to the NFL game," Brooks said. "The efficiency that he's displayed in the pocket [and] the accuracy - I knew about the athleticism, but he's really been outstanding. Jeremiah said Bortles represented a "unique evaluation" before the draft because, "I didn't think his arm strength matched his body type (6-foot-5) when you went and watched him throw."

Jeremiah watched a Jaguars practice early in camp and "really was not wowed ... He's thrown it much better in the preseason games then he did on the practice field that day. I see a big improvement in his mechanics."

The run-down:

- Safety Winston Guy (left ankle) was carted from the sideline to the locker room for X-rays.

- Defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks (right shoulder) departed early in the second quarter.

- Kicker Josh Scobee (quad) did not kick off in the first quarter (Kasey Redfern handled those duties), but came on to kick a 38-yard field goal.

- Linebacker Paul Posluszny (biceps), back after missing the Chicago game with a biceps contusion, sustained an injury to the other arm.
