Fran's Taken on a Challenge Close to Her Heart

FRAN Munce is no stranger to calling on the Clarence Valley to help people doing it tough.

After the recent floods the former Grafton Jail employee founded the Facebook page Clarence Valley Troopers to co-ordinate a community clean-up of flooded properties.

Last year she ran a successful campaign to support Valley woman Wendy Hedge through hard times.

But this time it's personal because her grandniece, Mikaylah Steinhardt, who lives in Gympie, is battling through chemotherapy following a heart-breaking diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in January 2013.

Fran has put out a couple of donation tins with Mikaylah's picture on it at her work, Plantation Organic Bakery at Tyndale and South Grafton.

"I wasn't sure how it would go down for someone outside the area," Fran said.

"If it goes all right I can quickly get more tins out there to local businesses."

Fran said her niece, Mikaylah's mother Jacinta Stasse, was benefiting from Clarence Valley expertise. …
