Clubs Calling for Carlin; Gympie-Raised Winger Shines for Ipswich Jets despite Side Crashing out of Finals

RUGBY LEAGUE: Gympie league product Carlin Anderson played a starring role, but it wasn't enough to get the Ipswich Jets over the line on Sunday, losing their Intrust Super Cup minor semi-final to Wynnum Manly Seagulls.

Anderson, playing on the right wing, opened the scoring for the Jets and set up two more tries in a standout performance from the 18 year-old.

Wynnum was the first to cross the line through Peter Gubb, but Ipswich edged in front 6-4 soon after as Anderson came in from his wing to run on to a pass from Dane Phillips and crash over for a try.

The former James Nash High School student was involved again in the next try, offloading in heavy traffic to Nemani Valekapa to score and put the Jets in front 10-4.

After the Jets took a 16-8 lead into half-time, Marmin Barba finished off a spectacular Ipswich play that involved Phillips breaking into the backfield and offloading to Anderson, who looped a long ball out to Barba to score in the corner. …
