FANS' CARE AMID O'HANLON ORDEAL; Horror as Left Ankle Snapsin a Tackle

RUGBY LEAGUE: Canterbury Bulldogs forward Pat O'Hanlon has received an outpouring of support from Mackay friends and family after his horrific injury at the weekend.

The 23-year-old Mackay Brothers junior suffered a compound fracture and dislocation of the left ankle in the 58th minute of the Bulldogs' 28-4 qualifying final win over the Melbourne Storm.

His father Matt was at the game and said O'Hanlon was in relatively good spirits given the circumstances.

"He's in hospital; he had an operation on his leg (Sunday) night," Matt said.

"He's received lots of calls and well wishes from people in Mackay, which always makes him feel a bit better.

"He's in pretty good spirits now; he accepts that it's part of life as a professional sportsperson."

O'Hanlon has had a great debut season with the Bulldogs, working hard to become a regular first-team inclusion.

It was his first run of the game on Sunday night, having come on from the bench, and he was wrapped up in a straightforward tackled by Storm trio Will Chambers, Cooper Cronk and Jesse Bromwich. …
