THE only thing Geoff Brown enjoys more than putting youngsters in their place is winning national titles.

Over the past three decades, the Nambour and Yandina member has forged a legendary career on the Sunshine Coast greens, once beating Commonwealth Games gold medallist Kelvin Kerkow in a state singles match.

"I played him quite a few times and I usually got nowhere near him, so to beat him was something very special," Brown said from his home in Palmwoods.

"I've had a lot of highlights in my time playing bowls but that was definitely one that stands out."

A former representative basketball player and high jumper, Brown discovered bowls 32 years ago when it became apparent golf was not his game. …
