'Victim' Jailed for Raping Teenager

IF ANYONE should have understood the trauma of rape as a child it should have been Shannon Robert Dunrobin.

Instead, the victim became the perpetrator -- again, and again, and again.

Judge Leanne Clare told the 35-year-old Bundaberg man in Brisbane District Court yesterday that he should have known "better than anyone" the toxic nature of child abuse.

Dunrobin, who went under the surname Barrett during the trial, was being resentenced after a second jury found him guilty of raping a 17-year-old boy when he was 29.

He faced a second trial after going through an appeal process.

Two days after meeting Dunrobin in 2008, the teenager woke to find him forcing his head into his pillow and pinning his arms under his body as he sexually assaulted him.

Crown prosecutor Sam Bain said the victim was a small, shy young man who did not have the protection of his family and had previously been homeless.

The pair developed a sexual relationship. …
