RESIDENTS in Clifton will have greater access to health services, with construction to begin on a new medical centre next month.

The centre, complete with additional consultation rooms and a telehealth room, will be built on the corner of Kate and Norman Sts, where the RSL building once stood.

Clifton Co-op Hospital general manger Brad Jones said the centre would open the possibility of more GPs coming to the town.

"The medical centre has the greatest opportunity for improved services and employment opportunities," he said.

"This new centre should service the community for the next 50 years."

A similar sentiment was shared by chairman Mel Binnington, who said the centre would have a number of benefits for Clifton.

"Firstly, the centre is going to provide far more spacious facilities and greater capacity for doctors," he said.

"The intention is we will have more GPs for patients to choose from."

One of the greatest benefits of the new centre will be the telehealth room, which Mr Binnington said would allow residents to access specialists across the country.

"With the NBN, doctors will have the capacity to video stream with specialists," he said.

"Doctors will be able to consult specialists anywhere they are."

Allied health is also coming on board with the new medical centre, bringing a number of health services under the one roof.

"One of the major benefits of the new centre will be the training of doctors," Mr Binnington said. …
