Times-Union sports columnist Gene Frenette grades the Jaguars' game against the Philadelphia Eagles based on performance, injury circumstances and overall effort.

OFFENSE

C-*****Fantastic debut for rookie receiver Allen Hurns (four catches, 110 yards), but repeated failure on third down (2 of 14) is a big reason why Jaguars blew 17-point lead. Chad Henne threw the ball with great touch on deep passes but wasn't always rewarded. Lack of running game behind a suspect line a huge concern.

DEFENSE

B*****Yes, it looks bad not being able to close out a game, but the only reason Jaguars took control early was pressuring Eagles QB Nick Foles into two sack-fumbles, which led to 14 points. This unit showed signs of being much improved. But you have to downgrade for missed assignments on Philly's 68-yard pass, 49-yard run for TDs.

SPECIAL TEAMS

F*****Two missed field goals by Josh Scobee, including a blocked 36-yarder, and allowing two 22-yard punt returns by Darren Sproles were huge factors in the outcome. …
