Rabbitohs Great Tells Refs to Keep Noses Out

JOHN Sattler, the last man to lead South Sydney to a premiership more than 40 years ago, has implored referees to show the Rabbitohs and Roosters forward pack some leniency in tonight's grand final qualifier.

Both teams have big, physical, aggressive forward packs who will push the boundaries in a bid to gain an edge, and Sattler, notorious for playing most of Souths grand final win over Manly in 1970 with a broken jaw, says the referees should not over-react and spoil what has the potential to be a classic finals battle.

"I just hope the refs don't keep sticking their noses in and ruin the game," he told APN. Sattler said even back in his day when South played Easts it was as rough and tough as it got on the field because of the neighbourhood rivalry.

"I think Souths can give them a dust up with the Burgess boys leading the way.

"I hope the referees don't bugger it up by constantly stopping play, because that's the way the game is going at the moment. …
