Smile on Jane's Face; Yamba Salon a Fresh Start for Beautician after Illness

SOMETIMES it's the hardest roads that lead us to the biggest successes.

And for Jane Morrison, it's no exception.

When she was diagnosed with a brain tumour, she was forced to shut the doors to her Grafton salon, Belle's Beauty, and thought her days as a beautician were over.

"I was the only person employed there at the time, so I had to close the shop when I got sick," Mrs Morrison said.

After treatment, she returned to Grafton to try to re-establish her salon.

"But it was just too much," she said.

"I couldn't deal with the stress so soon after treatment. It was a real struggle."

She moved to the Gold Coast and worked at a salon before moving back to Clarence Valley.

"I moved to Yamba four-and-a-half years ago, where I met my now-husband," she said.

"And for the past three years I have rented a room in Coldstream St to do my beauty work."

But being surrounded by other offices and predominantly male workers, Mrs Morrison decided it was time to take the next step and she will open her own salon in about two weeks. …
