AN APPLICATION has been lodged to turn one of Hervey Bay's most popular beachside cafes into a modern, two-storey restaurant with a rooftop bar.

Enzo's on the Beach has launched the bold plan after 10 years of success in its postcard beachside location.

Cafe owner Enzo Andreuzzi said the time had come to grow and expand.

"Basically to provide a better service," he said.

An application has been made to the Fraser Coast Regional Council to redevelop the site into a modern dining facility, capable of hosting functions and weddings.

But despite upgrading from a small kitchen and a shipping container, MrAndreuzzi said the cafe's unique thongs-and-board shorts environment would be retained.

"We're going to try and keep the same atmosphere - the old-school, chill-out beach atmosphere," he said. …
