GAVIN Jones admitted a back-tobasics approach was behind Blaydon's resurgence in their 21-16 home win over Coventry.

The No 8 and his team battled back from 13-0 down at the interval to snatch the win through replacement Toby Bain's late try, fellow sub Matt Hall and skipper Keith Laughlin having added the earlier scores.

"It was a tough battle at times and it went back and forth," said Jones, the England Counties international whose team failed to fire before the break.

"When we stepped it up and became more physical, we turned it on, stepped up to the mark and started running over people. It worked well, we started getting quick ball and scored some good tries off the back of it.

"We were struggling to get possession and not winning our line-outs, so that set the tone for the first half.

"We were trying to force things too much by playing inside our own 22, but later on we started winning set-piece balls. We were playing further up the field, and that was the key. …
