HUNDREDS of people "smiled for Pat" at a special fundraiser to remember an 80-year-old who died just months after a trusted carer stole from him. The family of Patrick Murray organised the event at the Beechwood and Easterside Social Club in his memory, and to raise funds for the care home he lived in when the incident took place. The Gazette reported how Pat's world was turned upside down after it was discovered carer Claire Louise O'Hara had taken money from his room at Coulby Newham's Stainton Way Care Home. O'Hara was found guilty of theft at Teesside Magistrates' Court last month and received a suspended sentence. Sadly, Pat didn't live to be at the trial, passing away two days after his 80th birthday, two months before the case went to court.

Daughter Christine Coulton and daughter-inlaw Susan Murray, along with other family members, decided to organise the event in aid of the residents' funds - and to show their support and gratitude at the care their dad received while there, despite the incident with O'Hara. …
