EVERYONE in football is supposed to be scared of Roy Keane. I'm not.

I'm not scared in the slightest. But then again, I'm OK. Roy likes me.

And I know Roy has been rattling a few cages in the game with his new book, but I like him.

I do. I think we have quite a bit in common: We both played for the Republic of Ireland, we both like our dogs more than we like the people who run the game, we both are not scared to express an opinion. What's not to like? In my experience if Roy likes you he is warm and friendly, a real good guy.

But if he doesn't, well then he is not going to camouflage it.

And there is nothing two-faced about him.

If he doesn't agree with what you do or say, then he'll tell you to your face.

He won't sugarcoat it.

And he doesn't play the game with the media and say everything in football's garden is all rosy - and that scares them.

But he is great value as a pundit because he is frighteningly honest.

When he is on a panel you can see the others are nervous because he cuts through the bull and the niceties and calls it exactly as he sees it and if he disagrees with what someone else is saying then he will go for the jugular in telling them so.

And for me, there's nothing wrong with that.

Fans have strong opinions, why shouldn't a player or a manager? Of course, it has got him into trouble a few times but he doesn't acre about that.

He burnt his bridges with the Republic by being outspoken over their World Cup preparations but he was right.

And he was eased out at Manchester United after savaging his team-mates on the club's own TV channel of all places.

He gave the "stars" both barrels for getting complacent - after they got thrashed 4-1 at Boro by the way - and he was right on that too. …
