THEY might not always get the recognition they deserve on the field, but on Friday night, all eyes were on Rockhampton's rugby league referees.

The Rockhampton and District Referees Association held its annual awards night last week to celebrate another big year.

With games commencing locally in Rockhampton in early February and finishing late in September, an estimated 1500-plus games were officiated in 2014 across International, Mini Mod, Rockhampton Senior Rugby League, Cyril Connell Cup, Mal Meninga Cup and Intrust Super Cup competitions, as well as local district carnivals.

Senior referee Jason McManus capped off a superb 14 years in the Rocky district when he picked up the Referee of the Year award.

McManus and his family are waving good-bye to the region and returning to Bateman's Bay for family reasons and McManus hopes to continue his association with the game down south.

The association wished McManus and his family well, with the senior official having played a major role in developing junior referees over his time in Rocky. …
