A HARLEY Davidson riders' worst nightmare is to bash up their beast.

Rider Troy Stuart did just that when he had an unexpected encounter with gravel at a Gladstone intersection.

Mr Stuart rode down Paterson St about 5am on his way to work yesterday and turned onto Larsen St.

"My front wheel of my Harley hit the gravel and just washed out," he said.

"I went straight over the handlebars.

"I was only going 20-40kmh max."

Luckily for him a neighbour was there and jumped over his fence to help move the bike off the road.

"I got myself off the road," Mr Stuart said.

"A scooter came past and I waved him down to slow down.

"He almost washed out and he would not have been going more than 20kmh."

The section of road was covered in gravel because of roadworks along Patterson St.

Mr Stuart said he could not have been expected to see the gravel.

"There were no lights on that corner and no signage," he said. …
