Time to Pay Tribute to Carers in Special Week for the Work They Do

BUNDABERG region residents have been called on to acknowledge the hard work of carers this week during Carers Week.

Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has congratulated the region's dedicated local carers.

Mr Bennett paid tribute to local carers such as Anne Fidock, who looks after her 29-year-old intellectually disabled son Jay Tindel.

Mrs Fidock said caring for her son, who has Down syndrome, wasn't always easy, but he was a delight to have in the family.

"He might be 29, but he's probably more like a teenager," she said.

"He will eventually go into independent living, but there's a lot of work leading up to independent living."

Mr Bennett said people like Mrs Fidock should be commended for their tireless work in caring and making a positive difference to the lives of others.

Mr Bennett said a wide range of activities were planned across the state including tea parties, picnics, award ceremonies and more.

"In Queensland, about half a million people provide care to a person who, because of disability, old age or chronic illness, requires assistance with everyday tasks," he said. …
