Police Keep Quiet on Money Mystery

POLICE are revealing very few details about a substantial amount of cash found and handed in to them by a good Samaritan.

The money was found near Meringandan on September 30 and as of yet no one has come forward to claim it.

Police would not reveal the exact amount, only to say it was in the thousands.

The find has given residents living nearby plenty to talk about as they try to solve the mystery cash's origin.

Was it a big lottery win? Winnings from a lucky punt on the horses? Does it belong to bikies?

Goombungee police officer Sergeant Greg Finucane said while police were keen to return the money to its rightful owner, they would not be taking any chances.

"We want to know where it was found, how it was packaged and how it was lost," he said.

Sgt Finucane praised the good Samaritan who handed in the money. …
