THE value of construction work slumped in the month of September, but development applications slightly rose.

That was one of the findings from the Development Services Monthly Report, which was discussed at the Mackay Regional Council meeting yesterday.

The value of construction work this September reached more than $5million.

However, this time last year the figure sat at more than $16million.

But planning and development portfolio councillor David Perkins explained monetary figures did not reflect a lack in developer confidence.

"It's important to understand the trends," he said. "We might get one application come in that is $16million in itself.

"But the next month we might not get close to that."

Cr Perkins said the number of development applications was a better sign of confidence in future growth.

"It's more important that we are still getting applications in, which we are," Cr Perkins said. …
