STOWE School put in a commanding display to retain the Under-18 Cup at the Tynedale RFC Schools Rugby Festival.

The Buckinghamshire School added to last year's Under-18 Cup and Under-15 Cup double by playing impressive rugby at Corbridge under the watchful eye of director of rugby Alan Hughes.

Stowe were the pick of an excellent crop of entrants as they saw off Yarm School (21-7), Hymers College (19-3) and Newcastle RGS (13-10) before pipping St Pauls School 14-0 in a repeat of the 2013 decider.

Tries from Rotimi Segun and Peter Kimondo and two conversions from Gregor Haldane took the game from St Pauls, who themselves impressed on the way to the fi-nal with victories over Ampleforth College (15-0), Durham School (17-0) and Blundells School (24-0).

Captain John Hawkins received the trophy from Newcastle Falcons coach John Wells to cap off a superb day of school rugby.

St Pauls did not go home empty-handed, their second XV ending top of the tree in the Under-18 Plate after wins over Old Swinford Hospital, Downside School and the impressive Newcastle School for Boys. …
