O'Keeffe's Ton Sparks Win to Show Hornets Have Much in Reserve

IPSWICH Logan Hornets' 16-year-old Daniel O'Keeffe embodies the future of the cricket club.

O'Keefe's maiden Queensland grade century (110) and 3-36 inspired the Hornets Reserves to their first win of the season, against Toombul at Amberley on Saturday.

"I couldn't really believe it myself," O'Keeffe said of reaching his ton. "Then when I was on about 80, I thought 'I can actually do this'."

The Hornets rely heavily on youth across all three grades and O'Keeffe has shown when they develop their self-belief, almost anything is possible.

After bowling Toombul out for 177 last week, the Hornets piled on 343. O'Keeffe was well supported by Justin McCarron (76) and captain Wayne Jones (44).

Even better for O'Keeffe than his century was seeing his team claim its first win of the season.

"It was unreal," the Gatton product said.

"It was the best feeling actually singing the team song. It was a real team effort to get the win."

O'Keeffe paid tribute to his skipper for helping him achieve his milestone. …
