WIDE Bay Hospital and Health Service was the only health service in Queensland to report a surplus, according to its annual report.

The health service said during 2013-2014, it had delivered better health services and treated more patients than any time in its history.

WBHHS chairman Dominic Devine said internal reforms had made it possible to focus on delivery of acute services.

"Planning for the last financial year recognised that issues such as dental waiting times had to be fixed, that people needed quicker access to treatment when ill and our performance against national standards has been excellent in these and many other areas," Mr Devine said.

"We have driven real change guided by the need to improve health together by giving the people of Wide Bay the best access to acute health services."

In September 2013, 5635 patients were waiting more than two years on dental waiting lists.

As of July 31, 2014, no patient was waiting. …
