MAT ON RUN FOR HIS DAD; Keeping Mesothelioma in Spotlight

RUNNING: Tony Britton endured a tough journey in his latter years as he was overcome by mesothelioma.

The Mackay football stalwart sadly passed away in March this year, and now his 39-year-old son Mat is taking on an epic journey of his own to raise awareness of the asbestos-related disease that took his father's life.

Mat is running from Mackay to Moranbah via Eungella on a 250km trek dubbed the Trail to Triumph. It's a huge task, but one that he is determined to conquer.

"Dad and I used to run through the bush every day and it was always good quality time with him," Mat said.

"Dad lost his 15 or 16-month battle to mesothelioma - a horrible disease - and it wasn't great watching him go through it, but he battled really hard.

"I said that I would do something big for him because I didn't want his name forgotten.

"It's not going to be easy, but I wouldn't do it if it was easy - it would have to be a struggle. …
