Hugo Wednesday, Film 4, 9pm Set in 1930s Paris, Hugo is the story of an orphan who lives in the walls of a train station and is wrapped up in a mystery involving his late father and an automaton. Martin Scorsese directs a cast that boasts Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Asa Butterfield, Chloe Grace Moretz, Christopher Lee and Jude Law, who together breathe life into this odd film that is half family-friendly fantasy and half dark tale.

Scorsese's only foray into the family film arena, it's not one of his classics, but what it lacks somewhat in heart it does make up for in spectacle.

August: Osage County Friday, Sky Movies Premiere, 9.30pm People pegged this as a sure-fire Oscar-winner earlier this year, partly because it's a family drama that stars Dame Meryl Streep. It looks at the lives of the strong-willed women of the Weston family who are brought back together by a family crisis and return to the Oklahoma house they grew up in as well as the dysfunctional woman who raised them. …
