Lepers No More ... INXS Manager Takes Boys under His Wing

LEPERS & Crooks bassist Nick Burg's voice cracks as he asks who I am, making sure he has dialled the right number.

"Sorry man if I sound a bit croaky, we had a late birthday party for our guitarist Alex on Sunday night," he said.

"I only just got up actually."

It's 11am. Musicians.

Lepers & Crooks should enjoy the rest while they can. They have already embarked on an arduous 30-date tour that takes them from capital cities to regional towns across South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.

Nick said the past few months have been dedicated to getting ready for the tour.

"We've spent five, six nights a week at rehearsals, preparing our setlist and working on getting the songs right," he said.

"It is extremely exciting, we are definitely keen to spread our music and see first hand how our music goes, what people like.

"There is a big focus on regional dates to sort of spread our fanbase out, but they're also just a heap of fun to play."

The Sydney-based outfit is made up of vocalist Sam Baker, guitarist and vocalist Pat Reuter Town, lead guitarist Alex Court, drummer Damien Jones and bassist Nick Burg.

While the name Lepers & Crooks has only been around for a couple of years, the boys have played together in various line-ups for years.

"We all went to high school together, so we have all known each other from then," Nick said.

"Pat (Reuter Town) and I have been playing together since Year 7, and we have all played together in various bands."

It is this musical familiarity as well as common friendship that Nick believes is what gives Lepers & Crooks its coherency and live energy.

"We have spent hundreds, probably thousands of hours together not just playing, but also hanging out as friends," he said.

"It helps to make a creative environment. …
