Cats Keeping Reveillere in Reserve; Cats Keep Defender Reveillere in Reserve

SUNDERLAND will deny new signing Anthony Reveillere a much-needed run-out before Monday's televised Premier League game against Crystal Palace.

The 34-year-old full-back is Gustavo Poyet's only realistic option if he wants to change the back four which has conceded ten goals in its last two matches. With Sebastian Coates and Billy Jones not expected back from injury by then, Saturday's unit of Santiago Vergini, John O'Shea, Wes Brown and Patrick van Aanholt are the only other senior defenders available to the Black Cats.

On the back of two largely selfinflicted defeats which combined with Newcastle United's resurgence to drop them into the Premier League relegation zone, Sunderland are in real need of points at Selhurst Park.

Reveillere joined as a free agent last week and was an unused substitute on Saturday, after his international clearance came through in time. But his last competitive game was for Napoli at Sampdoria in May.

Under the circumstances, one might have expected him to feature as an over-age player when Sunderland's Under-21s took on Southampton in yesterday's Premier League game.

But Duncan Watmore was the only visiting player with any firstteam experience. He scored the opening goal in the 1-1 draw.

The Black Cats are not thought to have any plans to play behind closed doors this week to get some match fitness into Reveillere.

Vito Mannone is likely to lose his place to Costel Pantilimon on Monday, but Brown would also appear vulnerable.

He and Mannone (the latter with the help of Will Buckley) made the individual errors which allowed Alexis Sanchez to score the only goals in Arsenal's 2-0 win.

Brown tried to play a backpass from the centre circle, but succeeded only in knocking the ball a couple of yards into space for the Chilean to collect. …
