City Legend Summerbee First to Say 'Well Done'

BOB MONCUR has hailed Newcastle United's victory over Manchester City as one of the finest in the club's history books.

Moncur lifted the last trophy for the Magpies in 1969 and the Newcastle legend was present at the Etihad Stadium.

As the TV cameras panned in on the Toon legend, the pride on his face was there for all to see.

The United ambassador also said that City legend Mike Summerbee was the first to put out a hand to congratulate the club on the success.

Moncur told the Chronicle: "It was a momentous night in the club's history. It was great for the team, the fans the staff and everybody involved with Newcastle United.

"What summed it up for me was that City legend Mike Summerbee came up after the game and said: 'You deserved it, you were up for it more.

"'You were better organised and you got the reward.'.

"For me you don't get a better message than that after the game."

Moncur believes it was hard to single out individuals but felt that some of Alan Pardew's men deserved a big mention. …
