Crowds Flock to Enjoy Firework Celebrations

THOUSANDS of families enjoyed a dazzling night of fireworks at events across the region.

As vivid displays splashed across the sky, swarms of people braved the chilly weather as they flocked to Saltwell Park in Gateshead for one of the largest Bonfire Night shows in the North East.

Children were delighted as sparkling lights of all shapes and sizes shot through the air at venues including Walker Park and City Stadium in Newcastle, and Beamish Museum in County Durham.

People of all ages huddled together to keep warm as they watched displays at Blue Flames Club and Segedunum in North Tyneside, Oliver Henderson Park and Barmoor in Gateshead and Ashbrooke Sports Club in Sunderland.

Fire crews, police officers and council staff worked across the region to ensure everyone had a safe night.

Northumbria Police also partnered with local authorities and fire rescue teams to reduce antisocial behaviour ahead of the displays.

At Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service's headquarters in Washington, control room staff had a busy night. …
