Court Date for Suspect in Alleged Bomb Plot

ATEENAGER has appeared in court accused of being behind a bomb plot centred around Newcastle College.

Liam Lyburd was arrested after police were called to his home at Hamilton Place, in the Arthur's Hill area of the city, on Monday.

Around 50 homes were evacuated after Northumbria Police received a report of concern for someone in the street at around 11.30am.

One Wednesday night, Lyburd, 18, of Hamilton Place, was charged with possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life, possessing ammunition with intent to endanger life and five counts of possessing an explosive substance, namely a pipe bomb, with intent to endanger life.

Police have said that their investigation related to an alleged plot to "cause serious harm" at Newcastle College.

Mr Lyburd was led into the dock at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court on Thursday by a security guard.

Dressed in a round-necked pale grey sweater, he spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth during the hearing. …
