No Support for Lambie on Protest

SUNSHINE Coast veterans reacted angrily to calls by maverick MP Jacqui Lambie for a snub of LNP politicians during next week's Remembrance Day services.

The Palmer United Party senator caused a furore yesterday when she asked people to turn their backs on any LNP politicians who addressed services on Tuesday.

The call was part of Senator Lambie's protest against a meagre pay deal for Defence personnel but immediately ran foul of Coast veterans, who described it as "disgusting" and "disrespectful".

Kawana RSL Sub Branch president Kevin Hurman said he was "bloody disgusted" by her call, even though he agreed Defence personnel should get a better deal than 1.5% per year over three years.

"Politics shouldn't come into this at all. It shouldn't even come close to it at all," Mr Hurman said.

Nambour RSL Sub Branch president Len Bebbington described Sen Lambie's call as "a bit stupid" and agreed she should leave Remembrance Day out of politics. …
