You're character is a scientist not an astronaut but she is embarking on a mission she may never come back from. What did you find to admire about her? THE reach to expand our work or move our civilisation forward has always involved great sacrifice by a handful of individuals who put the greater good over any risk to themselves.

This film really celebrates those who are brave enough to do that. I'm so floored by humans' capacity to put others before themselves.

My character goes through a journey from arrogance and fear to humility and openness. I think anybody who has the courage to go on that journey is somebody deserving of respect.

Fellow Oscar winner Matthew McCounaughey was the "pilot" for your journey. What was it like working with him? IT is a real pleasure to work with someone who takes their job seriously but also has a real light touch. Matthew never lost focus.

That didn't mean we didn't laugh.

He is full of amazing stories. He's lived a wonderful and very varied life, so I loved hearing tales from how he got to be where he is now.

He was wonderful at putting me at ease. Fantastic actor, fantastic man.

It is a shame he is so unattractive though!

Family dynamics are an important part of this film, the love Matthew McConaughey's character has for his children and that yours has for her father (played by Michael Caine) whose idea the mission is.

a brave and extraordinary thing that Chris (Nolan) has done in weaving are is so the persistence of love into this big adventure in space.

It can be seen as a warning against the impact we are having on the earth. What do you do to minimise your ecological footprint? I CAN'T pinpoint any one specific thing that I do that I am a crusader for. I try to do a lot of little things in hopes that they are going to add up. I time my showers. I try not to blindly consume things. I used to be a vegan, now I am not but I try to make sure that I know the are coming from and that source of where things are coming from and that I'm supporting small businesses that need it and who have practices that I believe in. …
