Feathers Fly in Bird Battle; Lorikeets Lose out in Backyard Blitz

BIRDS, the backyard and the drawing of battle lines - and all of it just outside her bedroom window.

Noosaville resident Jill Agnew has witnessed the ups and downs of the domestic lives of her local bird community and it's quite a scandal.

"From my bedroom window, I have my very own Discovery Channel," she said.

"A large gum tree has been home to a pair of rainbow lorikeets for a number of years."

But all is not well in "Tree Town".

"This year, there was a hostile takeover by a pair of little corellas who battled with the lorikeets and took over their home," Ms Agnew said.

Cast out of their bungalow and on to the bare branches, the two turned their attentions to their downstairs neighbours.

"The lorikeets in turn tried to take over the nest of a pair of scaly breasted lorikeets who lived in the tree trunk below," she said.

"He was there for at least two hours or more hanging outside their front door, pecking at them. …
