Warwick Runners Honour MH17 Victim Roger Guard

RUNNING: Warwick runner Georgie Stewart ran in several events with Toowoomba runner and MH17 plane crash victim, Roger Guard.

It's why she was keen to run at the Toowoomba Marathon late last month.

Stewart made the trip to compete in what is now known as the Roger Guard Memorial Run, along with fellow Rose City runners Leslie Le Valiant and Rob Stewart.

"I was so used to him (Roger Guard) saying hello as he walked past, him being at a water stop or him helping to organise trophies," Stewart said.

"He was a really good ultra runner who loved long distance running in the bush.

"It was a bit sombre after the race, just thinking about what the day was about."

The event was Stewart's first race in a year, after a knee injury forced her to hang up her running shoes.

"I'm coming out of retirement for certain events," she said.

"This was definitely one I wanted to do - knowing what the event was about made me more dedicated. …
