CRICKET: Colts skipper Shaun O'Leary thought the chance to play Mitchell Shield cricket might have passed him by.

O'Leary has been involved in Warwick Cricket Association club action for 15 years and although he has played two T20 games for the Warwick Bulls and was named 12th man for a Slade Shield match at Goondiwindi last year, he admits he thought the opportunity might never come.

"Definitely," O'Leary said when asked if he thought he may never get the opportunity.

"I've been picked as a bowler and we (Colts) have bowled sides out a bit cheaply this year as well as bowled on the synthetic pitch so I've had to work a bit harder for my wickets.

"But now that I've got it, it makes me appreciate it a bit more.

"I've always wanted to play Mitchell Shield so I'm excited to get out there."

O'Leary will be one of four debutants for the Bulls when they take on Central Downs in Pittsworth tomorrow, with Jack Breen, Lachlan Gross and Wheatvale bowler Ryan Collins also included for the first time. …
