ABOUT 400 jubilant seniors spilled from the Mountain Creek High School gates yesterday morning, ignoring the recent controversial calls to stop end-of-year celebrations.

The new ex-students rushed to their brightly emblazoned cars and lined up, honking and hooting, before excited and snap-happy friends, family, staff and vigilant police officers.

Maroochydore Police Station Senior Sergeant Gavin Marsh was in charge of the day, and said it went smoothly, with minimal traffic disruption and no reported incidents.

Among the student comments fit for print were "finally", "we made it", "this is the best" and an elongated "woo", punctuated by a beaming grin.

At least 100 of them were destined for Mooloolaba beach, determined to continue the tradition of swimming in their uniforms despite recent warnings from the school not to.

Tori Brodie and Kimbel Mendoza bathed in the tradition, which they described as "fantastic" and "really good", and emerged sopping from the ocean to celebrate with their parents. …
