DETECTIVES are not linking armed raids on jewellers shops on Teesside and in T Stoke-on-Trent, a leading officer has said.

Staffordshire detectives investigating a PS500,000 armed robbery at a jewellers in Stokeon-Trent believe they could soon be ready to make arrests, The Sentinel reports.

But the officer heading up the investigation says his force is treating the raid as a "one-off ".

The force says its top priority is catching the men responsible for the daytime raid on Beaverbrooks Jewellers at the intu Potteries shopping centre in Hanley.

Three raiders armed with axes, knives and sledgehammers burst into the shop at 10.50am on Monday.

The force has been liaising with officers in the Cleveland force area following the similar raid on the Market Cross store in Yarm last week.

But Detective Chief Inspector Ricky Fields, who is leading the Staffordshire investigation, has said they are not linking the two. …
